    Der vorliegende Beitrag stellt den Versuch dar, an Hand des Beispiels von Thomas von Aquin den oft gänzlich übersehenen oder marginalisierten Beitrag des Mittelalers zur Problemgeschichte der Willensschwäche exemplarisch zu verdeutlichen. Eine Analyse seiner theologischen Schriften zeigt, dass er diesem Problem in Gestalt seiner Diskussionen zu incontinentia und dem Sündigen aus Leidenschaft größere Aufmerksamkeit gewidmet hat. Dies findet seinen Niederschlag sowohl in einer vielschichtigen Analyse der Ursachen willensschwachen Handelns als auch in der bei ihm nachweisbaren Unterscheidung verschiedener Typen von Willensschwäche.     Die vorliegende Studie beleuchtet die Problematik der Unbeherrschtheit im gesamten Corpus Platonicum und rekonstruiert die historisch nachweisbare Differenz zwischen Sokrates und Platon in diesem Punkt anhand des Leib-Seele-Verhältnisses. Unter Rekurs auf Xenophons Memorabilia wird gezeigt, dass das sokratische Verständnis von akrasia subkutan auf einem rigorosen Leib-Seele-Dualismus unter Annahme einer eingestaltigen Seele beruht.
